PERFORMANCE ARTIST BIANCA FALCO RECOGNIZED WITH $5,000 CITY ARTISTS CORPS GRANT FROM NEW YORK FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS (NYFA) AND THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS (DCLA)
Bianca Falco Will Present “conamorebia” at Astor Place on July 16, 2021 3:30-6:30pm as Part of Award Program
New York, NY –Choreographer/Performance Artist Bianca Falco is one of 500 New York City-based artists to receive $5,000 through the City Artist Corps Grants program, presented by The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), with support from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) as well as Queens Theatre.
Bianca was recognized for “conamorebia”, which will bring a dance performance to Astor Place the NoHo/East Village neighbourhood of New York in Manhattan on July 16, 2021 3:30-6:30pm.
“conamorebia” means “withlovebia”, with love from Bia, the artist.
“conamorebia” is a performance where the passers-by can choose to participate in various forms or be just a spectator. Bianca will operate a portable mini photo printer. She will offer passers-by to participate to the performance by emailing her a photo to be printed on the spot. The photo should represent a person, or something, they lost or longed for during the pandemic. The audience/passer-by can then just watch or interact with a performer (respecting covid safety guidelines) while he/she performs expressing whatever feeling the image evokes. Bianca wishes to create a ritual of sorts: to mourn, to rebuild, to hope and to regain some emotional closeness with fellow humans. In the hope to acknowledge what we were before the pandemic, accept what we are in the present and embrace what we hope to be in the future. The performance will be 3 hours and Bianca is thrilled to hire a group of talented performers. Dancers: Giorgia Vitali and Despina Stamos, vocal acrobat and actor Zero Boy and multi-talented, circus, yoga and photographer, Barbara Gentile. The date is important as July 16 is one year anniversary of my brother’s passing. He passed because of Covid in Italy. I wish to have a hopeful feeling coming from the performance. As a child abuse survivor and sickle cell/thalassemia trait person, Art saved my life. I am from Napoli, one of the most creative, challenging cities. Through dance, I learned that I could transcend difficulties through translating them into movement. I hope to lead everyone to a different perception and place, where limitations are beautiful and a key for people to get together and find solutions to social issues as well as personal ones.”
Over the course of three award cycles, more than 3,000 artists will receive $5,000 grants to engage the public with artist activities across New York City’s five boroughs this summer and fall. Artists can use the grant to create new work or phase of a work, or restage preexisting creative activities across any discipline.
Members of the public can participate in City Artist Corps Grants programming by following the hashtag #CityArtistCorps on social media.
City Artist Corps Grants was launched in June 2021 by NYFA and DCLA with support from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) as well as Queens Theatre. The program is funded by the $25 million New York City Artist Corps recovery initiative announced by Mayor de Blasio and DCLA earlier this year. The grants are intended to support NYC-based working artists who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. It is strongly recommended that a portion of the grant be used to support artist fees, both for the applying artist and any other artist that are engaged to support the project.
The Cycle 2 application will open on Tuesday, July 6 at 10:00 AM EDT and will close on Tuesday, July 20 at 10:00 AM EDT. The Cycle 3 application will open on Tuesday, July 27 at 10:00 AM EDT and close on Tuesday, August 10 at 10:00 AM EDT. Please visit NYFA’s website for full details and eligibility requirements.

Bianca Falco: Skin/Toxic/Terrae is an environmental performance about the toxic waste disaster in Campania, Italy, artist Bianca Falco’s native land. Falco started a dialogue with mourning mothers from the region who lost their children to cancer caused by the toxicity of the dirt, water, and air. They wish to stop the illegal toxic waste dumping in the region. Language underlines Falco’s performance, as she narrates the stories rooted in her land-which, she notes, “as an immigrant myself, I long to help and I am deeply tied to. Language is a connection to what I am truly or what I was. The same language allows these mothers to share their loss.”Skin/Toxic/Terrae became more personal as the project’s composer, Falco’s brother, who lived in the area, passed away in July 2020 from non-hodgkin’s lymphoma. Throughout the performance, different actions take place symbolizing the decay of the body due to the environment’s toxicity.
“Marzia” and excerpt from “Terra dei Fuochi/Land of Fires” was invited to perform @ the Smush Gallery NJ in August 2018.

I have been wanting to prepare the best trailer I could from the 2017 premiere at La Mama E.T.C. of “Terra dei Fuochi/Land of Fires”. Time flies and I decided to stop procrastinating and prepare one today! Maybe it is not the best I could do, still I am glad I made it =). Thanks to all the wonderful donors who made the staging of the show happen. I am working on a shorter version as a solo to perform in Mexico 😉 #terradeifuochilandoffires #biancafalcochoreographer Bianca Falco #associazionenoigenitoriditutti #toxicwaste
